Badger Mountain Wines offer an array of classic varietal wines with no sulfites added.  Badger Mountain blends have a distinct heady balance of fruit, floral, spice and earth.  Their NSA wines carry the USDA Organic logo and per federal regulations, contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites.
2008 Riesling
COLUMBIA VALLEY | NO SULFITES ADDED (NSA) ORGANIC
The initial nose is of succulent bosc pears with lilac.
Asian pears unfold on the palate and mingle enticingly with
citrus zest and cardamom. Brilliant crisp and exuberant finish with no oak just great fruit flavors that delight the palate and the mind.  And reasonably priced around $12 and with many retail stores giving 10% off wine on select days this is a great value for a wonderful wine.

Moscato d’Asti Bosc d’LaRei DOCG
is made from 100% moscato bianco and has a straw yellow with golden appearance.  The nose is ample and very intense with a note of ripe fruit that is the unique aroma of Moscato.  The Batasiolo product has a full lingering sweetly soft crisp flavor with a wonderful aromatic clean aftertaste.   This variety is beautifully tasty on its own or with dry or cream desserts and fresh fruits.  It truly is an any time of day wine. .

Sean Minor Wines

Sean Minor was born in Manhattan, Kansas and grew up in Overland Park.  Growing up in Kansas means he knows a little bit about "value". His first job in the wine business was working in the Marketing Department for Bealieu Vineyards in Napa Valley, Sean then ventured to Oregon where he took over as General Manager of King Estate, where he met his winemaker now, Will Bucklin.  These wines are all very good and the prices will blow you away.

Sauvignon Blanc - Sonoma County
Chardonnay - Central Coast
Merlot - Napa Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon - Napa Valley

Bearboat Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley California

This Pinot Noir comes from a nice cool growing microclimate in the Sonoma Valley called the Russian River.  Pinot's from this area are complex and fruit driven.
This Pinot exhibits nice cherry and plum on the nose that gives way to plush cola and smoke through the midpalate.  Darker and a bit richer than most Pinot's this one will not benefit from age but will drink nicely for the next year.  Delicious with grilled meats, especially salmon.

Altesino Rosso di Altesino 2006, Montalcino-Italy

This super Tuscan comes at a not super Tuscan price.  Beautiful fruit on the nose of cedar and darker berries.  Under $20, this red delivers the promised fruit of sangiovese with the backbone and mouthfeel from cabernet sauvignon and merlot.  Don't be afraid to try some unorthodox pairings with this Rosso because it never sees the inside of an oak barrel.  Tasty now, and will show well for the next 12 months but should be enjoyed younger.

Kite’s Grille and Bar at Heritage Commons

Cuisine – Varied
Features – Full Bar, Off street parking, Patio seating
Open - Sun-Thur 11am -10pm, Fri-Sat 11am -2am
Attire – Casual
Payment – Cash or Card

While the Heritage Commons Kite’s Grille and Bar is relatively new, it has a distinct hometown feel to it. A great place to watch the game with all seating within ten feet of a TV, unless you move to the heated outdoor patio. As my dining companion and I looked over the wide variety of menu choices we couldn’t help but be impressed with the selections. With 7 different salads, 7 appetizers, quesadillas to wraps to KC Strips, there’s something for any taste.  I chose the Smokehouse Cheddar Squealer burger with a side of curly fries. ($7.29) This burger was done right! Served with 2 whole strips of bacon, a slab of cheese and pickle, lettuce, tomato and onion on the side, it was quite the burger. Nicely seasoned, juicy and the bacon gave it just the right amount of kick. The curly fries, while not very crispy, were quite tasty. My friend had the Cheesy Cheesy BLT ($6.49) and commented that for a simple BLT, it also was a sizeable sandwich. She also noted that the bacon wasn’t tough nor soggy and had a very flavorful taste.
I would recommend Kites to anyone looking for a great menu, casual atmosphere and a nice place to relax with friends. Anna C. (the coolest waitress ever), and the great food made our visit fun. We look forward to our next trip to Heritage Commons Kite’s Grille and Bar.

Texas Star has been treating diners to exceptional Tex-Mex and Southwestern BBQ since the late 1980’s. We stopped in on Friday and were greeted like old friends. Our server, Jack, brought us chips and salsa and welcomed us warmly. The friendly people and chili pepper décor provided a pleasant atmosphere. My dining companion decided to have the cheese enchiladas (7.39) and fried ice cream (3.99). She commented that the enchiladas were very good with a tasty blend of cheese, but the fried ice cream drizzled with honey was the best she had ever had. While most entrees are in the 7-10 dollar range, I elected to go with the T-Star BBQ Platter (15.99). If you’re hungry, this is for you. Must be a half slab of ribs with a perfect crusting of spices and sauce, some of the most tender and flavorsome brisket I have ever had, a sausage with just the right amount of spice and a mountain of fries. A great meal for the price. Had it been served on a warm platter it would have been perfect, as it did lose a bit of warmth to the plate.
Fresh taste and just the right amount of spice in every bite. If you are looking for a fun energetic place with incredible service without breaking the bank, I highly recommend Texas Star!

So Long Saloon

Attire – Casual

If you are a burger fanatic like I am So Long Saloon is the place for you. Awarded the Silver Spork for Best Burger in 2008 So Long Saloon is much more than a burger joint. With a dozen different appetizers, a nice selection of salads, sammies, soups and chilies it’s easy to find something for everyone. In my experience they are all good but the burgers are clearly the star of the show. I had the Crank It Up & Head South burger for $8.50. This burger was the best I’ve had in recent memory. The patty was nicely seasoned and very juicy. My burger was well complimented by a slab of green chili, lettuce, tortilla ribbons, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo and pico de gallo. It was a thing of beauty. I enjoyed it with crispy fries and a Pepsi although they do have a full bar including wine.
The service was fast, friendly and fun. You may have to wait a bit as this popular restaurant is not a large place. Take that as an opportunity to check out their antique bar, cool southwestern décor and large LCD TV’s. Overall I think So Long Saloon is a great place to eat and I would certainly recommend it to someone who was looking for a great burger.

Los Potrillos Mexican Restaurant and Cantina

Cuisine - Mexican
Features - Kid Friendly, Full Bar, Off street parking
Open - Lunch and dinner daily
Attire - Casual
Payment - Cash or Card

The first thing you’ll notice upon entering Los Potrillos is the full bar across from a well lit dining area decorated with a Mexican theme. We were immediately seated in the dining room with maybe twenty other customers. Our waiter brought out complimentary chips with cilantro-flecked salsa and took our drink orders. With a dinner entrée averaging $8. I had a Burrito Supreme Steak with sides of rice and beans. The burritos were quite large, stuffed with sautéed steak, smothered in white cheese and very tasty. My dining companion had the taco salad which she reported to be very good as well but larger than she could eat. Neither of us had room for desert this trip however from past experience I would recommend their fried ice cream!
We will look forward to our next trip to Los Potrillos and an opportunity to try something else. Perhaps something from their ten plus appetizers or their vegetarian menu. We had a pleasant dining experience and believe Los Potrillos provides a great value for your money.
